WHAT – A half-day Stewardship Summit to engage Kawartha watershed residents, groups and business owners on Lake Management Plan Implementation projects and priorities. Attendees will take part in a facilitated discussion to compile a list of community-based projects based on five high priority themes from existing Lake Management Plans.
WHY – Kawartha Conservation has developed a series of Lake Management Plans on behalf of the City of Kawartha Lakes and Township of Scugog based on scientific research and community consultation. Kawartha Conservation is now developing a multi-year action plan and budget forecast for Lake Management Plan implementation across the watershed and wants to consult with community members, business owners and partners on specific short and long-term projects to achieve Lake Management Plan objectives and outcomes.
WHERE – Cambray Community Centre, 2255 Elm Tree Rd, Cambray, ON K0M 1E0
WHEN – Saturday, July 15 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
WHO – Members of the Community Advisory Panel will be joined by Kawartha Conservation staff, and all members of the public are invited to attend.
OUTCOMES – All streams and watercourses in our community eventually flow into the Kawartha Lakes. Local residents know best where water quality is being degraded – whether on their cottage road, a rural location or urban area. The goal of the half-day Stewardship Summit is to come away with a number of specific community-determined project ideas, priorities and locations that Kawartha Conservation staff can investigate and include as part of a multi-year program for lake and watershed improvement. By working with the community and key partners, the recommended and suggested projects can be prioritized based on effectiveness, cost and community support.
